Jigokudani Monkey Park
Jigokudani, known as Hell Valley, can be the one of the highlight destination on your journey. You might have seen them on travel brochures. More than 200 monkeys live and bathe in this wild conservation area. Their breeding season is spring and you may be able to see many baby monkeys in the summer time as well as you can enjoy snowy monkeys under the falling white snow.
It takes about 40 minitues on foot to the Jigokudani Monkey Park from our ryokan. There is a nice trail to the site from Kambayashi. We can take you there by shuttle if you'd like. (Subject to time. Please ask at the front desk.)
Shiga Kogen (Shiga Heights)
Enjoy hiking on many trails in the 2000-meter mountain class ranges. Onuma Ike, known as the Blue Lake, is one of famous hiking destinations.
Zenkoji Temple
People from all over Japan visit this Buddhist temple. It's the finest example of mid-Edo period architecture and also the largest temple in Eastern Japan. 1 hour by car.
Obuse Town
Katsushika Hokusai, an ukiyo-e artist, once lived in this town. The influence of his work can be seen in the paintings of Van Gogh. Hokusai Museum and historic houses are the main attractions. 30 minutes by car.
World Peace Kannon
25-meter high stature of Kannon Bosatsu, the Goddess of Mercy.
