Shibu Hotel is a charming Japanese ryokan situated in the old town of Shibu Onsen, Nagano. Many Japanese who love the good old times of Showa come to stay at our hotel. Nearby attractions include the famous Jigokudani Monkey Park (Wild Snow Monkeys) where bathing monkeys are spotted. Monkeys bathing during the winter are called Snow Monkeys and especially popular among tourists from North America and Europe. The park is closer from Shibu Onsen than from Yudanaka Onsen.

You can walk around in the town, wearing Yukata (light Japanese robe) even at night. We provide free pickup from the nearby Yudanaka station. Just call us on the day you are coming. We will be there. If you are leaving after 3:00 pm, we can drive you to the station.

Hotel Features 22 guest rooms (each with its own bathroom), indoor and outdoor baths, party room, 7 dining rooms, gift shop, and parking. Cold Shiga Kogen water offered in the lobby. Lounge Mahoroba (morning & afternoon hours: 7:00am-11:00am and 3:00pm-6:00pm. Night: 8:00pm-midnight. Minimum 5 people. 2500JPY per person. Karaoke)

  • Front desk staff may be able to communicate in English, but with difficulty.
  • Many restaurants in the town: Soba, Sushi, and noodle restaurants. Bars and night clubs. Close around 9:00pm to 1:00am. 2-3 minutes.
  • Store is located next to the hotel. Open until 8:00pm. LAWSON convenience store is located in front of Yudanaka station (25 minute walk. Open 24 hours)
  • Shibu Onsen Map (Japanese version) is available at front desk.
  • Shibu Onsen Visitor's Center is located one minute from the hotel.
  • You can take food to your room. However, please do not bring it to the dining room.
  • We can take you to Jigokudani Monkey Park if you'd like.

Take JR bullet train Shinkansen Asama to Nagano (about 1.5 hours)
Transfer to Nagano Desntesu, take direct train to Yudanaka (45-80 minutes)

From Nagoya
Take JR Express Shinano to Nagano (about 3 hours)
Transfer to Nagano Desntesu, take direct train to Yudanaka (45-80 minutes)

From Osaka or Kyoto
Take any JR bullet train Shinkansen to Nagoya (45-80 minutes).
